Nowadays the word "Health" is considered to have much more meaning than it the had in old days. According to the definition given by W.H.O. "Health" is a state of complete physical. Mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity We may say that medicine is divided into three branches : Therapeutic Medicine, Preventive Medicine and Public Health. Of all these public health has to deal with more than the therapeutic and preventive work. It is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health and efficiency as to enable every citizen to realise his birthright of heakthy and longevity. Public Health is the work of society, and it could only be accomplished satisfactorily through the co-operation of the physicians, the people and society. But from the point of view of Mental Health, phychiatrists are also responsible for the prevention and the treatment of mental illnesses, so they become at the same time public health workers and it could be mentional here that both Public Health and Mental Health should never be separated from each other. Thus Jenson says, "If it is not Mental Health, it isn't Public Health."
