Home care program for psychiatric patients is a home visit program by psychiatric team in disseminate information on home care program that the patients could be looked after at home and their family could have a better quality of life. However, the Suansaranrom Hospital's project has never been assessed. Based upon the CIPP model, the purpose of this research is therefore to evaluate the project in the following areas; contexts, inputs, processes, products. Samples consist of 52 patients discharged from Suansaranrom Hospital in 1998, family members of the 52 patients, and 26 home care staff. The tools used in this research are in-depth interview, test form,and questionnaire. The research's result reveals the context of the project are fully in line with the policy on national mental health development. With regare to inputs, their family members and home care staff all agree that the implementation materials budgets and personnel arehighly adequate and appropriate. For process evaluation the project is well planned and meetings are frequently conducted both before and after home visit. The products of the project also show that both patients and their relatives are more knowledgeable and capable to look after themselves and have better attitude towards psychiatric patients. Home care staff also accomplish all the assignments. Nevertheless, the patients and their families suggest that community participation be a better approach to accommodation the psychiaatric patients in their own community.
