The purpose of this survey aimed at mental health status of two groups of the Thai people who have been affected by the economic crisis since July 1997 to the present. These two groups are the group of 410 general population and 610 the business men. The first group phone'book, whereas the second group were selected purposively from 58 finances in turmoil. Questionaires prepared by the Department of Mental Health, were used in both groups. The main findings are as follow: 1. General population group : 74.9 are facing with financial problem, 39.5% are having high-stress, and 4.6% have suisidal idea. 2. The bussiness group : 69.2% are facing with financial problem, 36.2% are having high-stress, and 2.1% suicidal idea. The high risk for servere stress are those with financial responsibility and the owner of property firms. In solving these problems, 85% of people choose to be more careful in their spending and 87.4% were looking for new job the 5 most common means chosen by these 2 groups are as followed; to accept the event as it is, to ventilate their grieves with trusted person, busy themselves with hobbies, making merit to the monks and by doing some physical ezercise. People who stay close such as family members, collage and spoused are their good sources to drain their stress. They were also using more service from monks and fortune-tellers than doctors and psychiatrists.
