ECT is now used to treat the patients suffered from some specife psychiatric disorders. Only the modified method of ECT is recommended. The electrode placement can be applued bilatterally or unilaterally. It si preferable to have ECT with EEG monitor. Brief-pulse stimulator ECT would make the patient ledd amnesic. In the future unilateral ECT will be popularly used. Some particular organic mental disorders can be safely and effectively treated by ECT. It is ecpected to find more cases died by reciving high dosage of antipsychotic druge if the law against ECT is still existed. In Thailand there are still under used of ECT especiallu in the general hospitals. The majority of cases are treated by non-modified method of Medcraft ECT apparatus. It is found that the medical students and psychiatric residents have indequate ECT knowledge. The auther recommends the psychiatrists to be more careful in using ECT. Those who order ECT should have enough skill. The public medians can help us in giving appropriate information regarding all aspects. As ECT will be fifty years old by the year 1988, the psyciatric association of Thailand should arrange academic celebration.
