This research was an action research. The main objective was to develop assignment system of primary nursing of nursing personnel to care psychiatric patients in the psychiatric ware at Prasrimagabhodi psychiatric hospital, Ubonratchatani. Subjects comprised seven professional nurses and one hundred and twenty patients were adminitted in ward. The nurse's knowledge and attitude for the assignment system of primary nursing and patient's Satisfactions for the assignment system of primary nursing and focus group discussion was used to collecting data with patients and nursing personnels. The three phases of study were as follows : exploring the problems, developing the assignment system of primary nursing personnels to care psychiatric patients and assessment of the satisfactions of nurses and patients. An analysis was noth qualitative and quantitative data. The result of nursing personnels of care psychiatric patients problems revealed nursing personnels work overload, shortage staffs also more gab and misunderstanding with patients, unclear for patient's problem. Before and after development of the assignment of primary nursing found that the nurse's knowledge and attitude and patient's satisfactions were significantly statistical difference at 0.05, personnels have more knowledge and attitude about primary nursing and patients's satisfaction was more too. The research result showed the development the assignemet system of primary nursing of nursing personnel to care psychiatric patients extent to twelve wards in prasrimahababhodi psychiatric hospital. The assignment system of primary nursing process and manual was used as tools which enhanced nursing quality assurance and effected to the nurses for developing the fruitful nurse-patient relationship
