This descriptive study was to survey the perceived learning needs of psychiatric nurses. The sample comprised 681 registered nurses who have been working on psychiatric units in psychiatric hospital under the department of Mental Health, Ministry of public Health and psychiatric units in university hospital under the Ministry of University Affairs. The sample were asked to complete a mailed survey questionnare of learning needs consisting of 73 nedd statements culled from a literature review and focus groups. The results revealed that the mean scores of learning aspects that psychiatric nurses identifide as the most needs were 1) interventions for families, 2) applying nursing process for patients with mental disorders, 3) nursing interventions 4) psychopharmacology, and 5) Theoretical basis of psychiatric nursing. The first five skills that psychiatric nurses reported as the most learning need were 1) family counseling 2) patient counseling, 3) Therapeutic relationship, 4) family therapy, and 5) therapeutic communication.
