The purpose of the research was to investigate stress and stress coping behavior of nurses workong at inpatient department, Suanprung Psychiatric Hospital Chiang Mai Province. The population was 125 nurses. The data were collected though the use of rating scale questionaires. The reliability by cronbach's Alpha coefficient was 0.96. The data were analyzed by frequency [ercentage mena standard deviation analysis of variance and the Scheff's test. The results was as follows : 1. The nurses had particularly stress at moderate level. 2. Then comparison of nurses stress separable by sec,age, experiencem educationm job position, department sex of the patients and level of salary found that there was no significant difference. 3. The comparisonof nurses stress separated by marital status was found that the nurses who had separated marital status felt more stress than single, divorced or married. The significant different was at the level of .01. That's means stress of nurses working at inpatient department Suanprung Psychiatric Hospital Chiang Mai Province depend on marital status. 4. The behavior that most of the samples selected to perform when they had stress was the emotional-focused coping styles instead of the behavior of problem solving styles. The 3 activities that the samples needed for their organization to provide were 1) support of exercise equipments and space; 2) extension of the limit of low-interest loan; and 3) provision of a common room for relazation at the work place.
