The purpose of this study was to examine the level of stress and to describe the coping strategies of schizophrenic patients in the course of day-to-day life. Lazarus and Folkman's therory of stress, appraisal, and coping was used as a conceptual framework for this study. The target population for this study was schizophrenic patients who attended at the outpatient clinic at Somdet Chaopraya hospital. One hundred patients were purposively selectde. The Demographic questionnaire, stress questionnaire, and open-ended questions were used for dato collection. Data were analyzed by using frequency and content analysis. The result of study revealed that stress in day-to-day life could be classified into three dimensions, social performance, family interaction, and social interpersonal interaction. According to the social performance dimension, 39.29% of the subjects reported high level of stress due to no income. Approximately 41.07% of subjects reported that unemployment caused them a moderate level of stress. According to the family interaction, more than one-third of the subjects high level of stress in situations including hostility in the family 37.14% criticism in the family 37.73% and suffered from emotional over involvement in the family 32.56%. According to the socialinterpersonal interaction, the majority of the subjects reported that no longer experienced stress in the social interpersonal interaction dimension. It was found that the subjects used eight strategies to cope with their stress in daily life. The coping strategies subjects mostly used were seeking social support, doing direct action, having a positive reappraisal, trying to realize "Tamjar" or "Plong" doing palliative activities seeking spiritual support avoidance and performing maladaptive activity.
