Schizophrenia is a chronic and pervasive mental disorder due to personality deterioration. Persons with schizophrenia can not function well regarding family and social roles. Therefore. Family members must take responsibility and provide physical, mental and economic support for their particular groups. Caring for persons with schizophrenia may affect mental health of caregivers and potential to psychiatric disorders. The purpose of this descriptive research was to study the mental health of caregivers of persons with schizophrenia, and relationship between mental health with age. Marital status, educational level. Occupation, sufficiency of income, relationship, and length of care. Subject were 380 caregivers, who brought the patient to fallow up and medication at the out patient Department of Suanprung Hospital. The research instrument was questionnaires consisted of the demographic date profile, and General health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28). The reliability of the GHQ-28 obtained by Kuder-Richardson 20(KR-20) was, 89 The results showed that 37.6 percent of the subjects had mental health with occupation and sufficiency incomes. This research results suggest that caregivers of persons with schizophrenia should be concerned in order prevent mental health problems as well foreseen psychiatric disorders.
